MICHIGAN TECH SKATES TO 2-2 TIE WITH TEAM ITALY
HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Michigan Tech and Team Italy skated to a 2-2 draw
in non-conference men's ice hockey action at the MacInnes Student Ice
Arena Saturday night.
The Huskies got on the board first at 11:47 of the opening period as
senior Chris Durno buried a shot from the left circle. Sophomore
forward Bryan Perez assisted on the play.
Team Italy evened the game at 9:32 of the second as Andrea Rodeghiero
beat Rick Cazares from between the circles. Less than two minutes
later, however, Chris Conner found Frank Werner all alone in front of
the net and Werner made no mistake about putting the Huskies back in
front at 11:21. It was 2-1 Tech after 40 minutes.
Team Italy, however, evened the game at 9:21 of the third period as
Massimo Stevanoni stuffed one home from the side of the net.
No overtime was played.
Cazares finished with 24 saves, while Team Italy's Gunther Hell had 22 stops.
Tech is off until it hosts the 38th annual Great Lakes Invitational
Dec. 28-29 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The Huskies take on
Michigan in semifinal play on Dec. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
