Minneapolis - The 10 finalists for the 1999 Hobey Baker Memorial Award were announced at the WCHA Awards Banquet. They are (in alphabetical order):

Jason Blake, senior forward, North Dakota
Hugo Boisvert, junior forward, Ohio State
Brian Gionta, sophomore forward, Boston College
Jeff Hamilton, junior forward, Yale
Eric Heffler, senior goaltender, St. Lawrence
Steve Kariya, senior forward, Maine
Jason Krog, senior forward, New Hampshire
Michel Larocque, senior goaltender, Boston University
Brian Swanson, senior forward, Colorado College
Mike York, senior forward, Michigan State

Blake, Krog, Swanson and York have all been finalists for the award in the past, (Blake and Swanson in 1997, Krog and York in 1998). Kariya is the brother of 1993 recipient Paul Kariya, who currently skates for the NHL's Mighty Ducks.

The two goaltenders among the top 10 are the most since there were three netminders among the 1994 finalists. Minnesota's Robb Stauber (1988) is the only goaltender to win the award.

The 10 finalists are determined by a vote of all NCAA Division I hockey coaches. The 1999 recipient of the Hobey will be announced on April 2 in Anaheim, California.
