In a fun game of one-upmanship: 1993-1994 WCHA Playoffs
#10 Michigan Tech (13-27-5 & 8-19-5) travels to #1 Colorado College
(23-11-5 & 18-9-5). Jamie Ram is in goal for the Tech Huskies who come
away with the huge upset, and set up the "Michigan Tech rule" (or Jamie
Ram rule, or CC rule) in the NCAA tournament selection process which now
gives the regular season and tournament champs a spot in the Final 12.
Because of Ram's heroics, Colorado College, the WCHA regular season
champs, were not only denied a spot in the WCHA Final Five but denied a
spot in the NCAA Tournament. Though Jim Carey from Wisconsin had the
better statistics (and team in front of him), Jamie Ram was the first
team All-American goalie.
