It seems that the discussion on this is focused less on college hockey and
resembles a  transcript of the Iran/Contra hearings.  Who know what, what
did they think they knew, when did they know it, whom did they speak to,
etc.
 
I too thought that this was a dead issue.  And it seems like such a simple
administrative matter to avoid all the hassle.  If the coaches have the
authority to declare games in their schedule to be exhibition games by
mutual agreement then perhaps they could simply state *in writing to the
NCAA before the season begins*  that the game on January nn with College A
at College B will be an exhibition game.  Only if the NCAA holds agreement
letters by both coaches for the game in question would it be declared an
exhibition, otherwise within a (week, month, whatever) before the game it
will by default be a regular season game.  The point is to get any
agreements in writing.
