Army beat the visiting Mavericks Friday in the first of a 2 game set 2-1. The
Cadets got goals from Mike Fairman and a shorthand game winner from Greg
Buckmeier with 26 seconds to go in the 2nd period. Kevin White scored the ONU
goal earlier in the 2nd period.

Army Soph Goaltender Corey Winer made his first start of the season memorable
stopping 27 of 28 shots. Maverick goaler Jason Mitchell had 34 saves on the
night.

Notes: the officiating was somewhat bizarre- there were 29 penalties on the
night; the linesman calling a minute slashing; 3 players disqualified after a
7 player brawk with 9 seconds left in the game.

Army after losing 2 games in ot (UML; Colgate) and to Providence by a goal
knocked off its first D1 opponent. Both teams are now 4-5. UNO looks like a
good quick and talented team. 5 foot five forward Andy Tortorella has all the
right moves but seems to waste too much energy chirping at officials and
trying to bang with the big boys. This UNO team will only get better as the
year goes on. Army proved it can play with the big boys when it puts out a
total team effort with strong back checking. Winer who is viewed as Daryl
Chamberlain's understudy came up with his sixth career win.
