CONSOLATION:

The UAA Seawolves and the British Columbia Thunderbirds skated to a 3-3 tie in
the consolation game of the 1992 Nissan Jeep Classic. It was only two years
ago that these same two teams skated to a tie in the final round and
consequently into overtime in the 1990 Nissan Jeep. This time however, the
winner (for tournament purposes) was determined by a shootout that UAA won 2-1,
granting them third place. British Columbia player Dean Richards was given the
player of the game award.

CHAMPIONSHIP:

Due to time constraints, I had to miss this game, but I was able to catch most
of the third period on the radio. And what a game it was (or seemed to be)!
Michigan State came in without their leading scorer Anson Carter who was out
with the flu, and Kent came in high after crushing BC in the opening round.
Both Kent State and Michigan State scored a single goal in the first, and both
teams were scoreless in the second. However, at 4:14 into the third, the
Spartans took an interference call and Kent's Dean Sylvester quickly scored
his 18th goal of the season to give the Golden Flashes the lead. Michigan
State continued to pressure, but they could not get get the puck past Scott
Shaw - who, incidentally, picked up the tournament MVP for his outstanding play
this weekend.

OVERALL SUMMARY:

UAA didn't hold any official practices during the entire week prior to the
tournament due to finals, and this seems to have hurt them... Word had it that
Michigan State arrived in town Thursday, and they seemed to be well adjusted.

This was a tournament full of upsets. No one really expected UAA to lose
to Kent, and after watching Sundays game, didn't expect to struggle for a tie
in tonight's game against BC, and I don't know that anyone anticipated the
outcome of the game against Michigan State and Kent State to be 2-1 Kent.
