Given the huge success of the "Hockey-L dinner", I am surprised we have not
established a "Hockey-L watering-hole" or similar pre-dinner event. Would it
not be simple for an experienced local to scout a local drinking
establishment either near the arena or in the middle of the hotel district
and simply warn the proprietor that Wednesday night this place will be
loaded (there is a pun here, but I'm not bring it up)? Granted, many of the
locals will might not show up and many of us travelers arrive at awful
hours, but for those who are there it would be nice to have a place to go
where you can share travel or other stories with hockey people. Plus if the
person doing the dinner is there, they can hand out the badges/pins ahead of
time. I know there is a Rock Bottom Brewpub close to the arena and all the
hotels in Milwaukee, and it is good size. But if we are ever to start that
tradition, this may be the place to try it. And heck, on a Wednesday night
there should be plenty of tables available.
