Illinois Chicago opened the scoring at 2:57 of the first period with a goal by
Randy Zulinick, assisted by Jim Maher and Bob Melton. Chris Wolanin scored on
a power play at 8:50 from Dominic Dunlap and Eric Schneider. Miami responded
at 9:22 (Joey Saban from Brian Savage and Terry Ouimet). Chris Watson scrored
for UIC at 11:45 from Trevor Wallace and Kyle Merkley.
 
Five minutes into the second period Miami made it 3-2 on a goal by Rob
Vanderyt from Bobby Marshall and Brendan Curley.
 
In the third period UIC failed to score in a 5 on 3 power play and there was
tension up to last minute. Miami coach George Gwozdecki pulled Goalie Richard
Shulmistra with 0:58 remaining, but the Flames defense closed in around Goalie
Mangino to thwart the Redskins. Larry Pilut scored an empty net goal at 19:57
with assists to Rick Judson and Dominic Dunlap.
 
Coach Larry Pedrie is happy to have his second victory.
