I just found the article. Paul Dukovac made the quote. I guess since Paul is
graduating, he doesn't have to worry about being Mandy's teammate if he does
come back. It was my understanding though, that Manderville was not exactly the
model student nor did he particularly enjoy his time at Cornell outside of
playing hockey.

The reason for the hype was that he had already been a high round draft pick by
Calgary. Also, if you saw his performance against Michigan in our 5-4 OT win
at Yost, you could see just how brilliant a player he could be when he decided
to show up. Unfortunately, he only showed up for about 5 games a year and went
through the motions for the rest of the time. It wasn't until this year that a
Sun columnist finally said what everyone had been implying for the last two
years, Mandy is a great player when he wants to be, but his playing for the
Olympics was not a very significant loss for Cornell. I don't think he would
have had the character to step forward and pick up the offensive slack that
Cornell needs from someone right now if he had stayed.

See my above statement on Manderville's enjoyment of the non-hockey side of
Cornell. I doubt he will return unless there is some outside reason that is
very compelling. Chances are he will move to
the next level of hockey and improve his game just enough to be mediocre, but
not enough to fulfill his potential.
It's what he did when he came to Cornell, when he went to the Olympic team, and
he will do the same in the NHL.
