Michigan State defeats Michigan 3-1 to win its second straight GLI. A new
tradition was started when the winning school's banner was attached to
the GLI banner. It will hang from the rafters at the JLA until next
year's tournament. MSU's goalie for the tournament, Mike Gresl, was named
the tournament MVP. State built an early 3 goal lead and played tight
defense to prevent Michigan from scoring but a single goal. In the
consolation game Northern Michigan easily beat Michigan Tech 8-1. The
first round games had scores of: MSU 5 - NMU 3 and Mich.4 MTU 1.
 
The GLI had announced crowds of 18,000+ each day.
