When I first read Sean's post about reasonable expectations, I said to
myself...self...this has Clarkson written all over it. I originally sent
this directly to Sean, but after reading other tales of NOT being
able to win the big one, I thought I would share it with everyone.

I have to think Clarkson (my biased opinion) could be the definitive program
for having an above average, dare I say 'elite', program every year without
EVER winning it all (at least Michigan has won a championship before).
Clarkson has over 1000 wins, one of the best (if not the best) all-time
winning percentage in D-1 history, 35 out of 36 appearance in the ECAC
tournament, dating back to the pre-HE days, and several NC$$ appearance
across 4 the decades (from the mid 60's, the early 70's, the early 80's and
the 90's).

Yes, it's exciting year in and year out to know you are going to be in the
fight to down to the wire, yet frustrating to keep coming up empty.
Winning the ECAC tournament in '91 (and again in '93) ended a 25 year
drought in the league tournament. However, one NC$$ championship to get the
monkey off Clarkson's back would be nice. Clarkson has lost in the
finals 3 times ('62,'66,'70). Whenever the topic of college hockey is
discussed, every RPI alumni I know, and I worked with a lot of them,
throws that 1985 Championship (not to mention the 1954 Championship)
out. There is NO comeback for that one.
