At Cornell University's Lynah Rink, the Big Red lost, but the home team
won on Saturday night. How is this possible? The Big Red lost 8-5 to
long time rivals the Big White. Yes, it was the annual intrasquad scrim-
age.
For the White, the line combinations were as follows (wing-center-wing):
1: Alex Nikolic, Ryan Huges, Joe Dragon--Alex is back after sitting out
the last part of last season, due to academic ineligibility, I believe.
This line is expected to be Cornell's top line. They looked pretty good.
2: Jim McPhee, Jake Karam, Tyler McManus. These guys scored three of the
White's 4 first period goals. McPhee is a senior, and Karam and McManus
are freshmen. McManus is a big kid. I wouldn't want to meet him in a
dark alley.
3: Rob German, Rick Davis, Ted Lindholm. They did get a goal in the first
period, but don't look to see them on varsity this fall.
Defensive pairs: Dave Burke and Todd Chambers: I was kilnd of surprised to
see tri-captains Burke and Paul Dukovac split up.
Christian Felli and Marc Deschamps.
Also on defense: Bill Patterson.
In goal Andrew Bandurski and Steve Coultes.

For the Red:
On offense
1: Jason Vogel, Shaun Hannah, and Phil Nobel. Shaun is the best skater on
this team, and Jason is always really intense, and gives the proverbial 110
percent. I like this line.
2: Stephane Gauvin, Karl Williams, Russ Hammond. This line picked up a couple
goals. I think it will be close between the red and white 2nd lines to be the
Big Red's 3rd line.
3: Gard Mayer, Marc Wyttenback, Ethan Yale. Never heard of these guys before,
don't expect to see much of them the rest of this year.

On defense:
Etienne Belzile and Paul Dukovac, Blair Ettles and Wendell Ewing, and Geoff
Friedman.

In goal: Parris Duffus, Geoff Raynak.

Some additional editorial comments:
Duffus did make some good saves, but I suspect that in the exhibition game
against WEstern Ontario this week we will see two goalies, and unless one
really sparkles, alternating goalies until one demonstrates himself to be
superior. I hope the rest of the ECAC has weak goal tending this year.
The two best goals were in the third period. Vogel passed the puck right
across the goal to dukovac, who knocked it in. Beautiful goal. Another
highlight was Dragon's unassisted double short handed goal. Hannah lost
the puck to Dragon in his defensive zone, and Dragon put it betweent the
pipes. I didn't go to last year's Red-White Scrimage, so I can't compare
them with previous years, but I'm kinda nervous about the Red's goal tending.
I have been to previous exhibition games against Western, so next week I
should have a better idea how this team compares to previous Cornell squad.
