Here is a recap of the St. Lawrence - Clarkson game played last night.

SLU 6, Clarkson 5 OT

Clarkson blew a 4-1 and a 5-3 lead to let SLU back in the game and win
it in overtime. This was a great win for SLU, coming from behind.

The first period saw the two teams evenly matched. SLU was able to hold
the puck in the offensive zone better and got 15 shots off compared to Clarkson
8. During Clarkson's third power play of the period, Andy Pritchard of SLU was
able to pick off Tretowicz's clearing pass, skate in alone on goalie
Rogles and redirect his own rebound into the net @ 17:08. Clarkson had
three pp opportunities during the first period but really weren't able
to set up at all in SLU's zone. The credit is due to SLU penalty
killing unit. SLU uses their fast skaters t try and force a turn-over
and get a chance at a shot. SLU has had several short-handed goals this
year. Clarkson's defense seemed out of and struggled to contain the SLU
forwards when they rushed the net.
After Coach Morris had a "little" chat with the team, Clarkson came
out strong in the second period. With just 24 sec. gone in the second
period, Dubinsky one timed a pass from Scott Thomas into the SLU net.
Les Kuntar was in goal for SLU. 55 seconds later Mark Green took a pass
in the slot from Hugo Belanger to make it 2-1. While in the Clarkson
zone, Pritchard checked Sanderson of Clarkson from behind while he was
being held on his knees at the boards by another SLU player. Ref Harry
Ammian did not think that Pritchard should have skated across the rink
and hit Sanderson in this manner with the play going the other way. For
his malicious hit, Pritchard was given a 5 minute major for hitting from
behind. This allowed Clarkson to get their pp going and made full
advantage of the major. Torrey scored first off of a Green rebound.
Clarkson was able to keep the pressure on and looked godd at this point.
Torrey scored at 5:20. With Pritchard still in the box, Ed Sabo scored
to make it 4-1 Clarkson @ 6:31. He was at the end of a crisp passing
play from freshmen Conroy and Lapointe. With this lead Clarkson skated
into a lull again and let SLU score twice and bring the crowd at
Appleton back into the game. Meany scored at 16:06 and Mike Lappin @
16:47. Clarkson was expecting an icing call on this play that never
came. With all of the Clarkson players disorientated in the center of
the ice, SLU turned it into a shooting gallery with shot after shot from
the point. these mental lapses harmed Clarkson all night. Shots were
21-11 in favor of Clarkson.
At 4:08 Dubinsky scored again for Clarkson to put them up 5-3. This
was the last of the excitement for Clarkson fans as the defense
struggled and SLU scored the next 3 goals. The fourth SLU goal came
after Rogles tried to clear the puck behing his net into Wells of SLU
who skated out in front and put the puck into the open net. Rogles was
skating and stick handling a lot and got burned. Giacin scored the
tieing goal @ 9:54. Both teams had afew chances to go ahead before OT.
Clarkson was a step behind or leaving open a SLU player whenever they
rushed the net. This led to the game winning goal. After Pritchard had
missed an open net form a centering pass on a rush, Allain was able to
redirect a Wells pass on another rush into the zone @ 2:42. Slu had 14
shots in the third period and 1 in Ot while Clarkson had 13 and 0.

SLU deserved to win this game. Clarkson made too many mistakes and
looked flat on defense with the younger players cracking under the
pressure. All in all it was a good reality check for Clarkson and will
help in refocussing the team. Harry Ammian called a good game. SLU was
0 for 6 on the pp while Clarkson was 2 for 5.

Dave Trombley of Clarkson is expected to be out for 2 to 4 weeks with a
hair line fracture in his knee cap sustained in the game against
Cornell. He is bwing missed. Clarkson does have two road trips coming
up, but they're against weaker teams. Princeton will be one to watch
though.
