Denver Edges St. Cloud State Men's Hockey
St. Cloud, Minn. -- The #8 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team
(4-1-1, 1-1-0 WCHA) lost its first game of the 2000-01 season with a 3-1
setback against Denver University (1-3-0, 1-1-0 WCHA) on Oct. 28, in St.
Cloud.
The Huskies opened the game's scoring at 1:42 of the first as Joe Motzko
scored his fourth goal in as three games with an assist from Mark Hartigan
and Ryan Malone. The Huskies' lead was short lived as DU bounced back with
the tying goal at 6:03 of the first by Kelly Popadynetz. Denver etched the
game winner at 5:09 of the second period with a tally by David Neale and an
assist from Matt Weber. SCSU pulled its goalie Scott Meyer with :33 left in
the game but was unable to convert as DU's Kevin Doell scored an empty net
goal at the 19:44 mark of the game.
DU outshot the Huskies 35-21 as Meyer gained 32 saves and Adam Berkhoel had
20 for DU. The Huskies will continue their 2000-01 season on Nov. 10 and
Nov. 11, with a road trip to Colorado College.
