Badger Hockey Converges In Lake Placid, N.Y.
Madison, Wis. - One current Badger, one future Badger and the Badger
men's hockey coach are together in Lake Placid, N.Y., this week as
part of the 2000 USA Hockey Women's Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y. The
event, which runs Aug. 15-20, involves 72 players with the hopes of
being considered for future national-level U.S. women's teams,
including the 2000-01 U.S. Women's Select Team.
The 72 players are broken into four teams. Current goaltender Jackie
MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) and future defender Nicole Uliasz
(Perkasie, Penn.) will both play for Teal Team. Joining MacMillan and
Uliasz as part of the tournament will be head Wisconsin men's hockey
coach Jeff Sauer, who will direct Red Team.
The four teams, Teal, Red, Blue and Black, will compete in a
round-robin tournament before earning a seed for a direct elimination
playoff. The gold-medal game will take place on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
CDT.
12 members of the gold-medal winning 1998 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice
Hockey Team join the nation's top high school and collegiate players
for the event. Also, 17 members of the 2000 U.S. Women's National
Team, which took silver at the 2000 Women's World Championship, will
also participate in the camp.
