When deciding the 50th anniversary team, I pleased with the inclusion of
Tony Hrkac (the greatest player to never make it in the NHL). I think these
teams sometimes get voted on by how the player performs later in their
career.
Which brings me to Chris Chelios. I had season tickets to Wisconsin when
he was playing, and he was a good player. As a college player however, I
don't think he was better than Tom Kurvers, a former Hobey Baker winner.
What he has done in Chicago has gotten him more repect as a college player.
He is much more suited to the NHL, almost the definitive NHL defensemen,
than he was to college.
One final note on goalies. I saw Terreri play in college and I don't care
if Providence ever played in a tournament game, he was spectacular. Marc
Behrend seems like a bit of an odd choice (I'm not beating up on
WIsconsin). Wasn't there Tony Esposito at Denver or Colorado College? How
was he as a college goailile?
