John Haussler writes: "Speaking mostly for myself and partly
for UM, I'd say that Michigan will stake claim to "C-YA!" but
little else. In one fans opinion..."

This cheer was picked up from the Duke basketball fans the first
time the Michigan basketball team had a road game at Duke. The
'Cameron Crazies' yell it at someone who fouls out of a game
until he sits down on the bench. So Michigan can probably claim
to have the first hockey fans to use it, but it was not created
   at Yost.

John Haussler writes: "The serious of expletives following the
"C-YA!" is distinctly Michigan. In fact, these have actually
branched out into variations so you have one group of students
yelling "!@#$%" and another group hollering "^&*?~". It becomes a
garbled bunch of noise."

As a fan who used to sit in the student section, I am
embarrassed by the expletives. I wish it would cease and I, for
one, am glad it 'becomes a garbled bunch of noise.'
