(Summarized from "Stops & Starts," the American Hockey Coaches
Association newsletter)

Some of the projects celebrating the 100th year of college hockey:

1) National Championship Trophy

Preliminary sketches call for a two-foot award in a pyramid shape, with
winners of past tournaments at its base. The standing trophy would tour
the country at selected sights. Each winner in all three NCAA divisions
will receive a replica. The trophy should be available for viewing by
January.

2) Centennial Banners & Youth Hockey Clinics

The ACHA hopes to hang banners with the centennial logo (currently seen
on the ice in many arenas) in each rink. Each coaching staff is
encouraged to conduct a single, one-hour youth hockey clinic in
conjunction with the AHCA and the Centennial sponsor (One Xcel, Inc.,
manufacturer of face sheilds).

3) National Fan Ballot on All-Time Favorites

In mid-December, the ACHA will distribute a ballot to fans across
the country for the selection of all-time favorites in several
categories (players, coaches, teams, uniforms, arenas, etc.) The
ballots are designed to allow fans choose by region, division and
decade. The ACHA will compare fan picks with the votes of a panel of
experts and release the results in February. Randomly selected fans
will receive trips to the 1996 NCAA and conference tournaments.

4) Historical Moments

The ACHA is distributing a list of "Memorable Moments" to the media.
Ten of the moments will be chosen to appear on a commemorative set
of hockey cards celebrating the College Hockey Centennial. The ACHA
will distribute the cards to the media beginning in January.

The Centeniall officially takes place on Feb. 14, 1996, on the
anniversary of the first game between American colleges. Yale defeated
Johns Hopkins, 2-1, in Baltimore, on that date in 1896.
