MTU RETURNS HOME TO HOST MINNESOTA-DULUTH THIS WEEKEND

This Week: The Michigan Technological University hockey team will host the
University of Minnesota-Duluth in an important Western Collegiate Hockey
Association series this weekend. Friday's (Jan. 20) game is slated for a
7:35 p.m. (EST) opening faceoff, while Saturday's (Jan. 21) rematch will
begin at 7:05 p.m. Both games will be staged at the MacInnes Student Ice
Arena (4,200) on the MTU campus.

On Radio: All Michigan Tech games can be heard live on WZRK radio, 93.5 FM.
Bob Olson, the dean of broadcasters in the WCHA, is in his 24th season as
the voice of the Huskies. Volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way is back for
his fifth year providing color commentary.

The Records: MTU is 12-9-2 on the season overall and 9-8-2 in the WCHA. The
Huskies are coming off a sweep at St. Cloud State last weekend.
Minnesota-Duluth, which gained three of four points at home against Denver
last weekend, is 8-12-3 in all games and 5-11-3 in the WCHA.

The Coaches: Bob Mancini (Colorado College, 1982) is in his third year
behind the bench at MTU. He owns a 42-51-12 record at the school and in
four-plus years as a college head coach sports a 78-83-24 mark. Mike
Sertich (Minnesota-Duluth, 1969) is in his 13th season behind the bench at
Minnesota-Duluth. He owns a 254-211-30 career mark.

The Series: Michigan Tech and Minnesota-Duluth will meet for the 149th and
150th times this weekend in Houghton, Mich. In the all-time series, which
began during the 1952-53 campaign, the Huskies have a 95-43-10 advantage.
Earlier this season, MTU gained a 1-1 overtime tie and a 5-3 win at UMD
(Nov. 25-26).

Coach Mancini on the Minnesota-Duluth Series: "Minnesota-Duluth is a team
that can be very dangerous. They put a tremendous amount of shots on our
net the first game we played against them and we were fortunate enough to
get a tie. We need to establish some dominance on our home ice, something
we haven't yet been able to do this season."

Coach Mancini on the St. Cloud State Series: "We got a total team effort
both nights. If we continue to play the way we did last weekend, we'll win
a good number of games."

1980, when current MTU volunteer assistant coach Darcy Way blanked Michigan
