FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MIDNIGHT MADNESS '94 SET FOR SATURDAY NIGHT
Opening Hockey Practice to Include NHL-style Skills Competition
Houghton, Mich. -- The Michigan Tech hockey team will officially open
practice in preparation for the 1994-95 season Sunday (Oct. 2) at 12 a.m.
as part of Midnight Madness '94. The event is free of charge and open to
the public.
Midnight Madness '94 actually begins Saturday (Oct. 1) at 11 p.m. with a
free open skate for everyone. From 11 p.m. - 12 a.m., fans will also be
able to register for major door prizes, pick who the Huskies leading scorer
will be at Christmas break, and pick the winners of the three NHL-style
skills competitions.
The MTU hockey team will hit the ice at 12:01 a.m. and following a short
warm-up, members of the team will compete in an NHL-style skills
competition. The first competition will be "breakaway" with each player
going in alone against the goaltender in an attempt to score. The second
competition will be "fastest skater" and the final event will be "hardest
shot."
The evening concludes at 12:50 a.m. with drawings for major door prizes
and also the awarding of prizes to the winners of the fans' contest to pick
the winners of the NHL-style skills competition.
