Please note that there has been a change in dates for the 3D Printing Series announced in an earlier email to this list. The new dates are November 1-20. The series is still being offered in an online, asynchronous format.

3D Printing Workshop Series

When: November 1-20, Where: online-asynchronous, Cost: $1200 (but free training is available, see Grant Funding below). Series includes the following which you get to keep: Flashforge v3 3D printer, 1 kg roll of filament, 3D printing tool kit

Week 1 – 3D Printing Hardware  Lean how to set up, operate, and troubleshoot your 3D printer. On the first day, you will open the box of your new 3D printer and within 30 minutes you will be printing your first model.

Week 2 – 3D Printing Software  Create your own 3D-printable designs from scratch. You will be introduced to three computer aided design (CAD) software programs: Tinkercad, Shapr3D, and Forger.

Week 3 – 3D Printing Design This workshop will introduce you to advanced techniques in 3D printing and design. Topics will include design for 3D printing, print orientation, converting file formats, modeling by coding, creating a 3D topo map, 3D scanning and more. You will be introduced to free design programs including Meshlab, MorphoSource, OpenSCAD, Codeblocks, TouchTerrain, and Polycam.

Additional Information This workshop series is delivered online and asynchronously. You work at your own pace, in your own time. There are no specific scheduled meetings, but the instructor is available via Zoom for individualized support. Each section is equivalent to 1 CEU (for a total of 3). A digital badge is available for this series.

Grant Funding Up to $1200 is available for eligible frontline workers through the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine’s Workforce. Your employer must join the Maine Workforce Development Compact for you to be eligible for funds. If you are self-employed and have a business name set up with the State of Maine, you can join the Workforce Compact and access the funding. Joining is free for Maine-based employers.
