Actually, the Seawolves played fairly well tonight (or, for a Friday night,
just great...hehehe). There was only one defensive breakdown that that allowed
Minnesota-Duluth to score on a rebound attempt from a 3-0 breakaway...and the
rest of the Bulldog's goals were simple great and well executed plays. This
team definitely deserves to be at the top of the WCHA.

After Brett Larson scored a quick goal at 1:50 into the first period, either
Duluth decided to take it easy, or the Wolves got all fired up, because
although the shots on goal don't really reflect it, UAA entirely dominated the
majority of the rest of the period, and had several great scoring
opportunities.

However, a little talking to between periods, and Duluth came out in the second
a bit stronger. Jon Rohloff scored a powerplay goal at 3:11 with a nice
screening job done by his teammates when he shot it from about 15 feet straight
out or so. It was just a minutes later at 4:32 that Brett Larson scored his
second of the night when he picked up the rebound from Duluth's 3-0 breakaway.
Great defense on the part of UAA kept the Bulldogs at bay for the rest of the
period.

The Wolves came out a little stronger in the third after only getting 5 shots
on net in the second, but Rusty Fitzgerald was still able to get through when
he was on the receiving end of a beautiful pass through the crease. UAA
finally got rewarded for their work when Sophomore Petri Tuomisto shot a puck
through the pads of Jerome Butler from the top of the right circle for a
powerplay goal. However, after UAA picked up a hooking penalty, Duluth came
back with a powerplay goal of their own when Jon Rohloff drilled it from the
just inside the blue line to close out the scoring for the evening.

As I said before, the Seawolves actually didn't play too bad tonight, but they
were clearly outmatched by a better team. The only real problem that I could
see was one that as I mentioned before...UAA still seems to hesitate about
taking shots. With 67 attempted shots by Duluth, one can see that they were
taking one at every possible opportunity...probability would have it that
sooner or later, the puck is going to find a way in. :) The other problem was
that there wasn't a man there from the rebounds...which were quite numerous
tonight.

Well...it will be interesting to see how UAA adjusts tomorrow night. As I'v
said before, the Wolves have never lost the second in a series this season...
but they have also never faced a team as good as Duluth yet. G'night
