With the conference post-season tournaments over and the NCAA tournament
almost upon us, it’s time to announce the winners of the Pick the
Post-Season Tournaments contests. For Contest #2, in which all rounds are
scored the same, the overall winner is...
Tony Buffa
whose 31 points were one better than runners-up Terry Casper and Matt
Carberry.
As for the individual conference winners...
Tony Buffa and Matt Sullivan tied for the top spot in the ECAC with 8
points each, but Tony took the first tiebreaker, as his predicted final
score of the championship game was only one point off the actual result.
Hockey East saw a six-way tie among Terry Casper, John Edwards, Mike
Larson, Jim Edwards, David Belfiori, and Jim Dixon, each of whom had 5
points. Terry and John were still tied after the first tiebreaker, but
Terry won the second tiebreaker (total goals scored in the entire tournament).
Craig Powers, Mike Larson, and Nathan Hampton each finished with 9 points
in the CCHA tournament. Craig and Mike remained in a tie after the first
tiebreaker, but Craig took the title with the second tiebreaker.
No tiebreakers were needed in the WCHA, where Matt Carberry finished on top
with 6 points.
William Sangrey and Charlie Shub tied atop the Atlantic Hockey standings
with 6 points each. Both were still tied after the first tiebreaker, but
William won the second tiebreaker.
From last week’s update, Matt Carberry won the CHA race in a tiebreaker,
with 4 points.
Complete scoring results are below. Congratulations to all the winners,
and thanks again to all those who participated.
Also, my apologies to Terry Casper and Matt Sullivan, whose picks were left
off my earlier updates.
Tiebreaker notes: The first tiebreaker was the difference between your
predicted championship-game score and the actual score. Thus, if you
picked the score of the ECAC championship game (actually 4-2) to be 2-1,
you would get three points; if you picked 1-0, you would get five points;
and if you picked 3-2, you would get one point. Obviously, the lower point
score the better.
The second tiebreaker was the difference between your predicted total of
goals scored in the entire tournament and the actual number. Again, the
lower the point total the better.
As far as tiebreakers that were actually needed:
For the ECAC, the championship game score was 4-2.
For Hockey East, the championship game score was 2-1 and the total goals
scored in the tournament was 58.
For the CCHA, the championship game score was 4-2 and the total goals
scored in the tournament was 115.
For Atlantic Hockey, the championship game score was 4-0 and the total
goals scored in the tournament was 39.
For the CHA (from last week), the championship game score was 4-3.
The USCHO prognosticators' numbers are included below, as are the "Higher
Seed" picks showing what would have happened if the higher seed for each
game had been picked to win.

LET'S GO RED!!
"For surely there is nothing more thrilling in this world than the sight of
a lone man, facing single-handedly, a half a ton of angry pot roast."
