Mercyhurst and Union played to a 2-2 tie Friday night in a non-league
game at Achilles in front of a nice holiday weekend crowd of over
1700. Union took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Jeff Wilson goal.
Mercyhurst used their speed to take a 2-1 lead in the second, and
could have had more if not for one shot off a post and another off the
crossbar. Union tied the game late in the period on a Jeff Hutchins
deflection of a long shot from the blue line. It was an entertaining
third period, with good chances by both teams. Brandon Snee stopped
two shorthanded breakaways to preserve the tie and Mercyhurst survived
a number of excellent Union scoring chances late in the third and in
the overtime period. Mercyhurst goalie Peter Aubry made 32 saves, and
earned the tie despite leaving a lot of big rebounds.

This was the first meeting between the two schools since a 5-4
Mercyhurst win in the ECAC West playoffs in 1990, while both teams
were in Division III.

Union is now 5-1-1 and remains unbeaten at home. They visit
Mass-Lowell on Saturday evening in only their second road game of the
season.
