Didn't ESPN's Gary Thorne and Bill Clement also call a final? Last couple
years?

Now that ESPN/ABC/DISNEY/etc. have consolidated hockey coverage, maybe Mike
Emerick (sp?) and say Darren Pang - both of whom seem to know the college
game - would consider calling the game. Has anyone on the list contacted
ESPN to voice their opinion either way?

Subject: ESPN Frozen Four coverage/Defending the Announcers

I was not so irritated by the bias of the announcers as their lack of
knowledge of the game. Why does ESPN choose to apparent hockey announcing
rookies to cover the Frozen Four? Does ESPN want announcers who barely know
more about college hockey than the casual fan? Good announcers can made a
game
much more interesting.

A few years ago we at least got Steve Levy and Barry Melrose, two
enthusiastic
and knowledgeable announcers.

This year's guys kept talking about SLU having 2000 students, Doug Flutie
and a select number of
"star" players because they are learning on the job - they didn't know what
else to say. In lieu of
silence they repeat themselves. On the other hand, everyone's got to start
somewhere.

The other irritating thing I heard were catch phrases used over and over
again, some which made
no sense at all. For instance, every other time someone cleared the puck
down the ice Mr.
Announcer-Person said, "So-and-so sends the puck down the river." Where the
heck is that from?
Anyone else ever heard of that?

Anyway, it's fun to goof on these guys.
