Let's face it. Here in New England, we have a panoply of sports from a
huge number of sources due to the concentration and population density of
the region. Coverage of any one sport is logistically difficult as a
result. This area is, whether we like it or not, a professional
sports-favored place, and, most regional media reflect that reality.

OTOH, The Boston Globe has attempted to respond to the perception that
some non-professional sports teams have successfully carved out a niche
for themselves, and, college hockey is one of these. IMHO, Compared to
college football, enthusiam for hockey is considerably higher
in this area, (BC in a good year excepted, perhaps), as witness the recent
demise of BU's gridiron entry. The Globe, in the context of providing
coverage as leverage against its preponderance of pro sports, I believe
does well by hockey. Many areas of the country, as we have seen in past
dispatches, have little or no mention of the sport at all, with the
possible exception of a scoreboard entry or two around NC$$ time.

I know what they do have pales by comparison to what we see on this list.
However, the Globe sports staff has recognized that college hockey is a
meaningful phenomenon in this region.
