Speaking of recruits, Boston College has received two verbals for the
1998-99 season. One of them is from national top ten (probably top five)
recruit Brooks Orpik from Thayer Academy. Orpik was one of the first invitees
to the US Developmental Program but declined his invitation so he could
return to Thayer. He was drafted late in the OHL draft but was rated as the
second best American in the OHL draft and was taken late only because of his
desire to play at college. He decided for BC over Michigan, Michigan State
and Notre Dame.
The other recruit for BC is Ales Dolinar out of Lawrence Academy. Dolinar
played center last year for Lawrence and was considered one of the best
forwards in all of prep hockey. BC's recruiting classes the past three years
have all been top five nationally (this past year's class is probably #1 or
#2) and they have a great start to a fourth straight super class.
Other leanings in Hockey East....
....super recruit Doug Janik (D US Developmental Program) is apparently
leaning towards BU
.....US Junior camp invitee Chris Dyment (D Reading High School) is
apparently down to BU, BC and UNH with no clear cut leader
....Another younger US Junior camp invitee, Mike Pandolfo (F St. Sebastian's
and younger brother of ex-BU star Jay Pandolfo) was considered a lock for BU
but apparently he's still involved with Maine and UNH and BU might have to
ante up a full ride to keep him.
Should be another great recruiting year!
