Former Harvard standout Peter Ciavaglia helped lead his IHL Detroit Vipers
to a 2-0 victory over the Long Beach Ice Dogs last night to win the Turner
Cup. Ciavaglia was the MVP and led the IHL play-off scoring with 33
points: 14 goals, 19 assists. Ciavaglia was the center on the line that
scored the winning goal in the 1989 national title game against Minnesota
in overtime. He remains a brilliant playmaker with an elusive style of
play. The Vipers victory, along with the Red Wings Stanley Cup gives
Detroit two pro hockey titles in one year.
