The University of Maine Hockey Team's Awards Banquet was help on
Saturday, April 13.  The following award winners were announced:
 
GARY THORNE MOST POPULAR PLAYER AWARD (voted on by Friends of Maine
Hockey Members) - TIM LOVELL
 
BANGOR DAILY NEWS THREE-STAR AWARD (comes from the 3 star award vote
of each game) - TIM LOVELL
 
DALE LICK ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (graduating senior with the highest
GPA) - BLAIR MARSH
 
MOST HONORED OPPONENT AWARD (determined by secret vote of team) -
       JAY PANDOLFO
 
STEIN AWARD (determined by team vote and awarded to player who, by a
variety of methods, brings the team to the proper emotional level for
a game) - TIM LOVELL
 
MOST INSPIRITIONAL PLAYER AWARD (selected by coaches and awarded to player
who through conduct, spirit, intensity, selflessness, and sacrifice, serves
as an inspiritional role model establishing a sense of comfort and
challenge for the team) - REG CARDINAL
 
OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER AWARD (selected by coaches and awarded to
player who consistently demonstrates the type of outstanding defensive
play that translates directly into outstanding offensive plays) -
     JEFF LIBBY
 
JACK SEMLER MOST IMPROVED PLAYER AWARD (selected by coaches and awarded
to player who has made the greatest improvement to his game skills and
contributions to the team in the past year) - DAVE CULLEN
 
HAROLD WESTERMAN COACHES' AWARD (selected by coaches and awarded to the
player who may not necessarily excel in any one skill, but consistently
makes important contributions leading the team to success) - LEO WLASOW
 
HOWARD NEVILLE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD (selected by coaches and awarded
to first year player who has made the greatest impact or contribution to
the success of the team) - BRETT CLARK
 
THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD (selected by the coaches and awarded to
player whose loss to the team subsequently would have the most
significant impact on the team) - TIM LOVELL
 
 
And lastly, the captains for next year are Tim Lovell, Jeff Tory,
Reg Cardinal, and Blair Allison.
