A question about NCAA eligibility rules has arisen. A local high
school player has been contacted by an NHL team. They would like to
fly him out for some "testing and evaluation" of his NHL potential.
This is not an issue of opting into the draft, but the player would
be accepting something (airline ticket, lodging, etc.) from an NHL
team.

It would seem this would have serious implications for NCAA
eligibility. We've ordered the eligibility rules from NCAA
Publishing, but are hoping for a first-cut judgment from the rules
gurus.

A second, much less important question: Just how common is this?
The player in question is 17 and just finishing his junior year in
high school.
