New Hampshire is off to its best start ever, improving to 7-0 with a 6-4
victory over the Northeastern Huskies last night. The Wildcats outplayed
Northeastern for most of the night, but NU goalie Tom Cole kept it close with
several spectacular saves. UNH had the game seemingly in the bag with two
quick goals at the beginning of the third period to go up 5-1, and another to
make the score 6-2, but Northeastern fought back to close to 6-4. UNH's
Scott Morrow had two goals, Domenic Amodeo had a goal and two assists, and
Savo Mitrovic chipped in three assists. Mitrovic's contribution was
especially welcome, since his status had been uncertain following a
concussion he received the night before during the UNH-BC game. He
apparently suffered no ill effects, however.

In the first period, NU had an apparent powerplay goal called back when Rob
Kenny was whistled off for interference just as the Huskies put the puck past
Levy. After the UNH penalty had expired, UNH took advantage and made it a
two-goal swing when Joe Flanagan stuffed a short shot home from his position
just off the left post. Scott Morrow scored near the end of the period to
give New Hampshire a 2-0 lead.

Sebasten LaPlante got NU on the board in the second period when he redirected
a Chris Foy pass past Levy at the right post. New Hampshire regained the
two goal lead while on a two-man advantage. Amodeo and Frank Messina traded
passes at the blueline before Amodeo blasted it home from the right point.
UNH survived 30+ seconds of an NU two-man advantage later in the period.

UNH appeared to have put the game away with two quick goals in the third
period, but then they got sloppy. It looked like the Wildcats thought the
game was over, and Northeastern took advantage, closing to 6-4 with 9 1/2
minues left. UNH then woke up and started playing some defense to secure the
win.

UNH's penalty killing was much improved after Friday night's fiasco, blanking
the Huskies on 5 powerplay chances. Coach Umile seemed to have the forwards
skating much more agressively last night while shorthanded, keeping the puck
out of the Wildcat zone. Amodeo and Mitrovic had several shorthanded chances
stopped by Cole.

New Hampshire's next game is a home matchup against Boston University, which
should be a good test. The Cats still haven't faced a real quality team, so
take the 7-0 record with a grain of salt. This game and a November 30
matchup against Clarkson should give some idea as to just how good this team
is.
