The following information has been copied from Tom Powers' column in the St.
Paul Pioneer Press (7/20/94) [without permission]:
"The University of Minnesota is offering to pay arena start-up costs so it
can move this year's Border Battle hockey game against Wisconsin to Met
Center... Met Center is expected to be razed within a year. An Oct. 29th
Minnesota-Wisconsin contest would send the old building out with a bang."
<Note from I.R. - Met Center is the former home of the former Minnesota
North Stars.>
"University officials have been discussing the idea with Carrolyn Anderson
of the [Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission]. Anderson, a longtime
friend to the hockey community, has been receptive.
" 'The dreaded Badgers,' she said with a laugh. 'What a wonderful way for
the Met Center to go out..."
"The commission meets today. The issue is expected to be brought up,
officially, for the first time."
