As already reported they have been doing it since the early 1970's at Wisconsin. I was there once back then and they also had this huge banner with a goalie who had been just baraged by pucks, many in the net. Underneath it said SIEVE and it was an advertisement for Coca-Cola!! Hilarious! They also printed that in their programs. I believe I still have one.
Funny how it grew and grew and grew. I hate it and never sieve at Mariucci.

I think first heard it from Wisconsin fans at the NCAA's in 1973. I also
saw Wisconsin in the NCAA in 1972 and 1970 so I could have the wrong year
but the recollection of 1973 is strong -- maybe because Cornell lost in
OT. I think Cornell fan's started using it the next season -- 1973/74.
