(27Feb99) Saturday evening at UT's Varsity Arena, the Stingers of Concordia
smoked the St. Francis Xavier X-Women 10-0. Concordia quickly put the match
away as they readied themselves for tomorrow's Canadian Nationals final with
Alberta.

The Stingers opened the contest with three quick goals by Annie Boucher, Karen
Kendall and Laura MacKenzie. It all looked so easy the way Concordia moved
the puck around. While the storm settled down after that, the Stingers would
add three more goals from: Corinne Swirsky, Anne Rodrigue and Monelle Hebert,
before the first was over. Swirsky's strike was an ooh-la-la, touch control
solo effort that was rather amazing.

In the final two periods, Concordia added four additional tallies: Leanne
Martell (2), Kari Colpitts and Lisa-Marie Breton. The X-Women did manage some
good looking breakout plays, but were clearly overmatched.

Xavier needs to look to its skating. They need to develop those skills. I
was impressed with the defensive coverage of Gayle MacDonald. She held her
own within the waves of attackers. The line of Cindy Clarke, Michelle Fortier
and Sarah Racicot gave it their all. They hustled throughout the contest.
Next up for the X-Women is the 5th place game with McGill.

Concordia did enough to win the match, but certainly didn't push it.
Genevieve Fagnan had a nice game on the blue line mopping up any little
problems that arose. Swirsky stood out with her sensational solo strike.
Overall, the defending champs look tough to beat.
