Thank you Pam,

Your energy and consistent follow through as well as valuable time is
deeply appreciated. What is most needed in this kind of effort is
leadership and commitment and you have given us just that, I'm grateful.
The entire library community is grateful. There are so many frustrating
events and pit falls in getting legislation passed. The fact that money
for this bill was shifted to the regular budget is no small
accomplishment. There were only five or six, of all bills with money
requests, carried to the next session. Quite an accomplishment.
Hats off to all who helped, the Joint Legislation Committee members and
Jamie Ritter,Chair of the Joint Committee. Thanks again Pam, your worked
very hard and deserve all our praise.

Subject: [MELIBS-L] LD 793 UPDATE

Hi Everyone

On behalf of the Joint Library Legislation Committee (JLLC), thank you
to everyone who made calls and sent emails and made personal connections
to your legislators.

LD 793 has been held over for the next session. This is good news for
us because it means that Appropriations will take another look at
funding the entire bill rather than just the $100,000 for databases in
each of the next 2 years. Our legislation will retain the same LD
number for the next session. We will keep you posted.

The Joint Library Legislative Committee (JLLC)is made up of
representatives from the Maine Library Commission, the Maine Library
Association, the Maine Association of School Libraries, the Maine State
Library, the Maine Library Trustee Assocition, the Friends of Maine
Libraries, and Academic Libraries. The Committee is Ccaired by Jamie
Ritter representing the Maine Library Commission.

The JLLC appreciates the support of the library community for LD 793.
Please give yourself a pat on the back for staying involved. Together
we have a shot at getting LD793 passed in the next session!

Thank you
Pam Turner
JLLC Vice Chairman
