Please see the great grant opportunity below!
This is a $1000 mini grant but the professional development and the assistance from a national partner is a wonderful opportunity!

What type of support and professional development will be available for me as I plan and offer the programs?
In addition to the mini-grant of $1,000, you will receive online professional development that will 1) help you explore and use NOAA data, tools, and related resources in tandem with learning how climate changes will impact your geographic region and 2) expand your understanding of the emerging role of libraries as a center for promoting environmental literacy and community engagement around climate change issues. You will be supported by an online community of peers and through ongoing interactions with your NOAA science partner. You will also receive program-specific templates to use for marketing and program planning that will need to be implemented independent of other programming your library offers.

Subject: ANNOUNCING New Grant Opportunity for Rural & Under-Resourced Urban Libraries

PLACE: Public Libraries Advancing Community Engagement:

Environmental Literacy Through Climate Change Discussions

The Califa Library Group is accepting applications for mini-grants to librarians in rural public libraries and under-resourced urban libraries who are interested in providing science-based adult programming focused on local weather challenges and threats.

Program Model is "Book Club Meets Science Café"
The project, which is funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will build the capacity of librarians to plan and facilitate science-based library programs in partnership with NOAA scientists. The library programs use videos and popular books to engage audiences and promote discussion. Through exploration and discussion, participants will become aware of online tools that can provide information for their own community, family and individual planning for extreme weather and other climate events.

Professional Development Training for Librarians

The professional development will include interactive webinars, online learning materials, peer support, and video case studies of similar adult STEM programs. Participating libraries will receive program materials, a planning guide, marketing and promotional templates, and $1,000 for the three-part program series.

Please share this opportunity with libraries in your state. For more information and to apply go to: http://califa.org/place
