Networkmaine is troubleshooting an ongoing network problem impacting a
portion of users at the University campuses, centers, and extensions,
affecting both the wired and the “tempest” wireless networks. The nature
of the issue is improper client IP address assignment, and work is
currently under way to troubleshoot the cause and restore normal network
functionality.
Symptoms of the issue can vary from a pop-up message warning of an IP
conflict, to sporadic or complete loss of connectivity either upon
initially connecting to the network **or** after having been connected to
the network for a lengthy period of time; this problem will generally not
strike users who have been connected successfully to the network for modest
periods of time, from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the network.
If you believe you may be experiencing this issue, please contact your
local campus IT support center for assistance. As a possible workaround,
depending on individual circumstances (i.e. device capability and local
availability of network resources), switching from a wired to a wireless
connection or vice-versa may restore network connectivity while work
continues on a permanent solution.
Updates on the progress of resolving this issue will be provided as
available.
