INVITATION FOR PROPOSALS

The 2nd Biennial

*Building Thriving Communities: Capitalizing on Evolving Science and
Circumstances Conference*

When:
Thursday and Friday, November 2nd and 3rd, 2017



Where:
Point Lookout Resort, Northport, Maine

Panel sessions over the two days will feature the variety and diversity of
initiatives happening throughout Maine designed to share vision, ideas,
experiences and opportunities designed to build Thriving Communities
throughout Maine.

Individual, agencies, schools and other organizations interested in
presenting a break-out session focusing on your local efforts are invited
to submit a brief proposal in one or more of the following tracks or
categories:

• Neighborhood and “Built” Environments
• Health and Health Care
• Social and Community Context
• Education
• Economic Stability

The local initiatives discussed may range from well-seated, fairly
long-term initiatives to start-ups. Small team presentations (1-2
individuals) are encouraged including those focused on:

• Awareness/Education
• Screening/Identification
• Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

• Intervention/Treatment

• Resilience Building

• Prevention
• Creating/Engaging Coalitions
• Specialty populations or critical issues (ex: early childhood, substance
use disorder, etc.)

Attendees will include a wide audience: K-12 and post-secondary educators;
medical, healthcare mental health and behavioral health providers; juvenile
justice; social service agencies; law enforcement; early care and
education; child welfare; clergy; business leaders; policy makers and
legislators; and community residents of all ages.



Each Breakout session will consist of 1-2 Teams, depending upon the topic,
each with a 25 minute presentation on their initiative or topic. The
remainder of the breakout session will provide time for Q&A and discussion.
Each presenter will be limited to seven (7) Powerpoint slides, although
presentations without slides are strongly encouraged!



All conference materials (presentations and handouts) will be available
electronically for participants.

We will also provide opportunities for a poster session, which we encourage
you to consider and indicate in your proposal response.
