Congratulations to all of the wonderful Maine Upward Bound programs for being funded again. Fingers crossed for UMPI and Thomas College. Maine needs all of these programs. You do important work!

Subject: TRIO Upward Bound grant competition

MEEOA is thrilled to share the initial results of the TRIO Upward Bound grant competition.

First, Secretary Devos has stated that UB applications eliminated from consideration due to formatting errors will now be read and considered.
This means that UMPI's two grant applications will be read and possibly funded. *KUDOS* to UMPI TRIO staff, students and alumni who with the Maine Congressional delegation worked with others across the nation to educate the Secretary about this issue and urge her to allow these applications to be considered. While the timing for this process is still uncertain, stay tuned for hopefully more good news for UMPI's UB program.

Second, the first slate of funded applications was released on 5/23 and *Maine saw all currently funded grants refunded: Bowdoin (1 grant), UMF (2 grants) and USM (2 grants) for a total of 5 grants. Bowdoin and UMaine each were awarded a new grant. **These seven grants will bring $2,161,002 in federal funds to Maine each year for total funding of $10,805,010 over the five years of these grants.*

Third, the funding band slate has not been released yet, and MEEOA hopes that Thomas College's new UB application will be in the funding band. Keep your fingers crossed for Thomas and hopefully even more good news!

Congratulations to Upward Bound!

Best,

Laurie
