The Belgrade Public Library is starting off our 2017 Special Events with
another great author visit!

Last Wednesday we had Kathryn Griffin Swegart visit. As a local Maine
author, Kathryn writes under the pen name of K.F. Griffin. She has
published a fiction children's book titled The Wreck of the Essex about the
whaling ships in New England. While here, Kathryn talked about some of the
history behind Herman Melville's famous book (Moby Dick) on this same topic
and its influence on her book. Did you know there was a real whale named
Mocha Dick that attacked whaling ships or that Melville was originally
going to write his novel as a dry textbook?

Kathryn answered all questions regardless of topic and was very personable
She stayed late to sign and sell books and interact one-on-one with
several folks. . It was a fabulous evening sharing an intriguing part of
Maine's water past!

Kathryn was great to work with and I recommend inviting her to your
library. If you are interested in her visiting your library, email her at
