Dear Poundians: No, I'm afraid the Sieburth edition in the Library America
format of "all of Pound except the CANTOS" isn't what it's cracked up to be.
Too many omissions, for one thing, in a book of more than 1200 pages, which
ought to be complete but isn't. The mixture of prose and poetic translations
along with Pound's original poems is also somewhat confusing, since the
translations are of mixed quality, some very good but some rather mediocre (for Pound,
that is). The only argument for the book is that it puts more of Pound's
work in a single book than any publisher has done so far, with extensive notes
and chronology that are worth the price themselves. But devotees will still
need all their other Pound books to refer to. Sorry to be negative about a book
I thought I was going to like, but I must be honest. Bill Pratt at Miami of
Ohio
