Bob :
I think I got the cart before the horse, and also got more of my own present
thinking in the passage you quote below than of Pound's circa 1930s and 40s.
I perhaps should have said that, IMO, the money-worshiping Jews a la
Rothschild, Schiff, Warburg, etc. that Pound focused on had a mirror image
in the "left, socialist, atheist ethos of non-observant or apostate Jews,"
who to a terrible degree WERE the 1917 Bolshevik Rev., certainly the most
murderous features of it. Other Jews of the same ethos launched the Zionist
state of Israel. Can't say I know that Pound ever much commented on the
leftie side of the thing.

I think his important comments on international politics antedated the
revelations of the real iniquity of the Red regime via Solzhenitsyn and
others. (I am not au courant as to the term neo-Lib or exactly what it
involves.) Certainly I am much more explicitly a Christian (Catholic) theist
than Pound ever was, but many things he said about Europe in the pre-modern
period were comforting to "our crowd."

I see the current contest as between followers of Religion No. 1, the
"original religion of humanity" in which God is sacrificed for man, and
followers of Religion #2 wherein men are sacrificed to the false gods they
erect themselves. My reference is to Merejkowski's Atlantis: Secret of the
West. And I see Pound, for all his angry lashings-out, as essentially on our
Religion No. 1 team, and a powerful force on it.

But this is perhaps to go a bit astray. (I am presuming here to ecrire qu'on
pense, seule plaisir d'ecrivain, the opinion of de Gourmont's that Pound so
loved to quote. I hope my French is not too far off.)

Tom White writes:
The curious thing is how it doth appear the world is now at last catching
up with Pound. What he was objecting to was the left, socialist, atheist
ethos of non-observant or apostate Jews (which was oddly the mirror image of
the money worshiping Jews, à la Rothschild), what one writer, talking of the
Russian Rev. of 1917, has lately called "Lenin's willing executioners,"
mimicking the accusation by a Jewish writer that Germans and especially
German Catholics were Hitler's.
