I think Pound is referring to the mask on the title page of Reinach --
note the "basket-work of braids" and the "oval." There's no other Venus in
the"opening pages." See John Espey's study of Mauberley,with references to
Gautier, and also, not mentioned by Espey, Mlle de Maupin,p 36 of the
English translation.--J. Korg
