*What is happening?*
On Thursday May 23rd, 2019, the forward proxy host once known as "
proxy.its.maine.edu" (130.111.32.229) will be disabled. On March 24th its
name, proxy.its.maine.edu, was handed off to a new resilient forward proxy
cluster, so no changes should be required on any hosts using the
DNS-resolvable hostname as the forward proxy host identifier. At this time
it appears that all hosts have stopped using the old proxy host by IP
address, so it is time to retire it.
On May 29th the old host will be shut down, with no intention to restart it.

*How long will it take?*
The downtime of the old server is expected to be permanent. All users
should already be using the new servers, resulting in zero downtime from
this action.

*Why is this work necessary?*
New proxy servers with better software and encryption support have been put
in place. This notification it just in case something is still out there
that hasn't been checked to be working with the new forward proxy cluster.

*What happens if the work is not successful?*
If the old server does not stop acting as a forward proxy it will be shut
off immediately. Otherwise it will be shut off after a few days.
