Fellow school librarians,
I think the governor's decision, released as many of us were together at
the annual MASL Spring Fling, took us all by surprise. It's been two weeks
since the news broke. Lots of questions have been asked, answers given,
and options made clear. Apple is still eager to have our business despite
the governor's decision.
Now each district has to make a decision about which option to chose. For
some, it may be an easy one. We are not finding it so here in York and I
would like to know what other districts are deciding and their rationale.
We are not interested in the HP option since we are predominantly a Mac
district. While we don't like the additional expense to choose Mac Airs
for students, we are questioning the wisdom in opting for iPads. While
iPads may be 'hot' right now, how will they hold up both in terms of
durability but also functionality, or will that technology be such ancient
history in 3-4 years that we will live to regret the decision.
I would like to know where other districts are going on this one. Our Tech
Team meets on Thursday to further discuss the options in more depth than
at our last meeting. Any comments are most welcome.
TIA,
Liz
