Is Pound only speaking of the golden section, however intrinsic it is bound
up with nature? Granted Canto 87 refers to the tower at Poictiers where no
shadow appears as well as deMolay, the "Section", and the proportions; and
later asks in Canto 90 if deMolay knew these proportions. But why wouldn't
he know these proportions if they were only a reference to the golden
section? Isn't the golden section common knowledge even in deMolay's time?
An implication of deMolay's execution, performed at the new moon of a
significant Metonic event, March 19, 1314, was that he was tortured not only
to recant heresy but also in order to reveal "secrets" of the Templars,
money or something. The golden section is certainly not a secret, but the
building of Solomon's Temple in which Hiram Abiff met his demise dying with
the secret was possibly a builder's proportion of another sort.
Coincidently, Hiram of Tyre helps Solomon build his temple (see 1 Kings
5:1-18). And we must pause to reflect what kind of temple plan it is that
Christ said he could destroy then build up in 3 days which took Solomon 30
years to build. (The divine Child also figures in the Mysteries of Eleusis)
Pound writes, "Remove the mythologies before they establish clean values."
Canto 87
Wouldn't it be ironic if the "Holy Grail" (in the Jessie Weston sense of
it) turned out to be essentially of the same construct as the Temple of
Solomon in Jerusalem; and the Knight's Templars (some of whom were
descendants of Sir Gawain) who guarded both the Temple and the way to it had
discovered exactly this secret geometric construct? It would explain why
the Church has been so adamant in its denunciation of the K.T. and Masons.
Could Pound in his search and celebration of the Cathar Light been on to
this?
