Pound's anti-Semitism and the issue of recantation are discussed inRobert
Casillo's Genealogy of Demons and the article Modernism Fascism and the
Composition of EP's Cantos by Ronald Bush in ModernismModernity,Vol 2,
1995. These don't settle the issues, but anyone wanting to think about the
problem of recantation and the late Pound's state of mind ought to see
them.Hayman's The Last Rower is also relevant, discouraging to Pound
advocates.
The Pound issue is perfect for focusing the debate on the
relevance of the socio-political themes now dominating criticism to the
question of literary value. Let's hope the Pound debate turns out right.
