I agree with most of your post, Pawel, but here I'm afraid you
are not quite accurate. In the US some gulags were/are called
reservations, others were called plantations, but they
operated quite effectively to destroy masses of people.

Careful -- one cannot blame a whole people. That is what
anti-semitism does. And 20th century russian history is
more complex than you suggest here.
