Tim, some more questions:

   Why do we suppose that they are petals of a tree and not petals of a rose
of some color?  Are the petals not supposed to represent the faces in the
crowd?  If so, are they not to be a flesh tone?  When you recite the poem
aloud with your eyes closed what color do you see?
