Over the last year or so I've been reading a lot of Harold Bloom's
theorizing about poetry. One thing that always strikes me as odd and off
the beam is that Bloom does not seem to realize Ezra Pound
ever wrote poetry and has had enormous influence. Then it ocurred to me
that Pound does not cause Anxiety. At least not in the way that Bloom
describes it. Eliot for Bloom is ridden with anxiety, but he Pound....
well it just seems that Bloom has anxiety about Pound. and that Pound is
so evasive. No poet I have ever read has indicated that Pound was anything
but beneficial in terms of what they had learned from him. Perhaps Pound
is so wide ranging in offering models that he cannot really cause anxiety
in the way that some poets do. Too diverse to cause anxiety? Any thoughts?
